Opportunity Child to celebrate National Families Week 2019

Opportunity Child is encouraging families across its national network of communities to celebrate National Families Week 2019 – Australia’s annual celebration of the importance of families.

Held between 15 – 21 May 2019 and launching on the United Nations International Day of Families, the week focuses on the vital role that families play in Australian society.

The enduring theme ‘Stronger families, stronger communities’ highlights that families are the central building block of our communities and that community wellbeing is enhanced by family wellbeing.

“Strong children and strong families are the fabric of strong communities. In turn, we also know that strong community environments provide the conditions that help children and their families thrive.

Celebrating and investing in families and their wellbeing is critical to our social and economic future and the evidence shows us that countries that take family wellbeing seriously, reap intergenerational rewards across the lifespan,” said Dianne Jackson, Opportunity Child CEO and National Families Week 2019 Ambassador.

Opportunity Child is working with a growing number of communities across Australia that are focused on improving early childhood outcomes and intentionally working together to create the conditions that children need to thrive.

Opportunity Child is supporting National Families Week by providing practical support to ‘backbone’ teams and community structures through the provision of content and advice for a localised social media campaign, inviting families to get involved.

National Families Week is a time to celebrate with your family, make contact with your extended family and friends, and share in the enjoyment of family activities within the wider community. It is a time to celebrate the meaning of family and to make the most of family life.
